President’s & Chairman’s Cup at Alta Vista GCC

FULL POINT - FULL POINT By Nimrod Quiñones -
A special monthly medal tournament will be held at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club this weekend and we call it the President’s and Chairman’s Cup.

The two-day event will start today and will end tomorrow. Players will however play only one round in the two-day period.

The tournament will be using the strokeplay format and entry fee is only P1,000 for club members and non-members will be assessed P2,000. There are however only 30 slot available for non-members.

There are still several slots available, but better get there early so you can still be accommodated.

The tournament is held in honor of club president Renato ‘Oly’ S. Dychangco and club chairman Matias ‘Bombi’ B. Aznar III.

There will be prizes for lowest gross and the lowest net and runner-up for classes A, B, and C of the men’s division, the ladies and the seniors’ classes. The prizes at stake for the guests would be for lowest gross and lowest net.

There will also be a Skygo motorcycle and P60,000 from CICI General Insurance for a hole-in-one on all par-3 holes. If there will be more than one winner, the prizes will have to be equally shared.

Special prizes will also be given for nearest the pin on hole No. 6, longest putt on hole No. 8, and the most accurate drive on hole No. 11. I can’t believe it myself, but last November I won the most accurate drive in the club’s monthly medal. How I did it? I still have to figure it out hehehe.

There have been a lot of inquiries from fellow parents about summer sports programs for their children and I am happy to note that there are more parents interested to get their children into sports during the school break.

When I was a child, I didn’t really get much exposure to formal training sports except probably when I enrolled in the summer learn to swim program of the YMCA a long time ago.

Kids today probably don’t know much what the YMCA is. It used to be a haven for sports during summer and I believe it still continues to offer lessons for all sorts of sporting events.

In the 1980s you can learn karate, lawn tennis, stickfighting and many others at the YMCA during summer.

It was the only where you’d bump into schoolmates and their siblings, who are also enrolled in the sports classes.

Now, there are so many places to go to and so many people and centers offering training that leave many parents confused.

You can even enroll your children in the sports training program of their school.

How I wish all of these were available while I was a kid, but then while we can’t turn back the clock, we can always move forward and encourage our children to take advantage of what is being offered in their own schools and the many training facilities around us.

One thing that I did experience this summer is seeing my son confused on what he’ll enroll in, would it be the football training or the futsal training at Don Bosco. That’s going to be a tough choice, but I guess he has decided the choice is actually between playing indoors and outdoors. I better get several bottles or tubes of sun block ready and I hope that gives him a hint where I’d want him to be.
