Chester Enterprises '83 stretched its winning streak to three after a not-so impressive start with a 60-49 romp of the slumping Villa Shipping '70s in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 9th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup on Friday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Stephen Tan exploded with season-high 19 points and 17 rebounds, while Cesar Ting added 12 points as Class '83 bettered its win-loss record to 4-2 after dropping two of its first three games.
The defense-oriented Christopher Cokaliong scored only seven, but hauled down 10 rebounds and two steals. Riyan Co, however, caught the surprise of everyone when he netted eight points - including six during a cripping run in the second quarter- on top of two rebounds and two assists
Riyan Co had a near pefect outside shooting, hitting four out of five attempts from the field that made him the newest revelation for the resurgent Class '83.
Stephen Tan tossed in seven points in the first quarter to vault Class '83 to an early 16-12 lead. Riyan Co, Christopher Cokaliong and Schenley Calagos then presided over a searing 23-12 run to pad their lead to 15 points, 39-24, at the intermission. They never looked back from thereon.
Antonio Go and Arturo Sy combined for 23 points for Class '70s, which nosedived to its fifth straight defeat after an ego-boosting 3-0 start.
In the other game, Neo-Neo Grill '85 toned down offensively in the final half, but piled up points in the early goings enough to repulse Dew Foam '88, 46-43.
Joseph Tio fired a career-high 15 points, Edwin Kaw had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists followed by Wilson Yu with 10 points and 10 rebounds as Class '85 chalked up its fifth victory against only one setback.
Class '85 built a basker's dozen edge at halftime, 32-19, and then played tough in the remaining quarters of the match to quell a spirited comeback attempt by Class '88.
Rey Kenneth Ng finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while Erwin Yu added 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals, but his all-around show couldnt prevent Class '88 from absorbing its third loss in five starts.
