Tito Bombi's Albatross
March 3, 2007 | 12:00am
An albatross or a double-eagle is the rarest of feats in golf.
Yesterday, a player scored an albatross on the par-5 hole No. 9 of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
Engr. Matias 'Bombi' Aznar III, chairman of the AVGCC board, holed out on his second shot for a double-eagle using a nine wood.
The feat was witnessed by Rolly Santos, Elmo Siap, Undo Chua, and John Uy.
Although there is a temporary green on hole No. 9, this feat still is most remarkable considering that the second shot is taken not from a position where the ball is teed.
Tito Bombi said that this was his first albatross, but in his many years of golfing he has under his belt seven aces. Wow!
Congratulations Tito Bombi and I wish that you'll have more double-eagles to come.
Manny Pacquiao, who has said he would not run for congressman, seems to have flip-flopped and his backers are now saying that Pacman's political plans remain.
Who do we believe now?
The people behind Pacquiao should remember their priorities at this point of the boxing idol's career and I don't think politics should take him away from fighting for a legitimate world title.
Pacquiao may have reached this point of his life because of his talent and hard work, but without the adoring fans, it would have been different.
Wanting to help people is a very noble but there are many ways to do that aside from being a politician.
Maybe Pacquiao can start counting how many politicians are really doing an honest to goodness job in their positions. He'll probably see that even those always surrounding him aren't really doing such a great job in helping people.
I heard from very reliable sources that some politicians were really aching to be recognized during the "Moment of Truth" boxing promotion at the Cebu City Sports Center.
However, there were also many who were worried that they too would get booed just like Pacquiao and even Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.
Sports events are surely a great way for politicians to get the recognition that they so long most especially in this election season.
I just hope we won't get fooled by those who just got into sports hoping to make some people believe that they have a heart for sports development when their purpose is just to get the votes.
