Stanley Gaw and Wilson Yu both reached milestones. The only difference is that their respective teams met contrasting fates on Thursday night in the 9th Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) season at the CEC gym.
Gaw fired 24 points to power Eco-Tech Appliance '94 to a 67-56 scorching of the listless Cokaliong Shipping 2002, while Yu scattered 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists, but his efforts went to waste as Neo-Neo Grill '85 tasted for the first time the bitterness of defeat at the hands of Security and Systems Monitoring '87 via a close 63-68 decision.
Gaw needed just three points, but he did more than just that in becoming the 32nd member of the league's 1,000-point club.
Class '94 trailed by five at the end of the first period, 14-19, but countered with a blistering 33-16 rally in the middle quarters to grab the lead for good after three quarters, 47-35.
Gaw then unloaded 10 markers in the final canto to help Class '94 neutralize Class '78's offense in the closing minutes of the contest. Arthur Bejer added 14 markers followed by Wellington Yu with 10 as Class '94 bettered its win-loss record to 3-2.
Mark Jordan So had 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists, while Christopher Boltron added 19 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, but they couldn't make a difference as Class 2002 stayed winless in four games.
In the nightcap, George Artus topscored for Class '87 with season-highs 24 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while Henrich Chua chipped in 19 points, five rebounds and two assists to spoil the big night of Yu, who became the 33rd player to breach the 1,000-point mark.
Class '87 used a strong 24-9 start to dictate the tempo of the match the rest of way and eventually clinch its fourth victory against a solitary setback.
Edvin Kaw topped with 21 points and five rebounds, while Chan banged in 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for Class '85, which saw its four-game winning run come to a sudden red stop. - EBV
