Alagas rules 1st Opascor Employees chess event

Mark Alagas won all his five assignments to rule the "1st Opascor Employees Chess Championship" held over the weekend.

Alagas, who downed Ricky Luero in the last round, received P1,250 and a specially crafted gold medal. Closely trailing Alagas were three players, who were tied at 4 points a piece.

In the play-off, Marvin Eguia emerged first runner up for P1,000 as Ricky Lucero took the second runner up honors for P500.

Opascor president lawyer Tom A. Riveral was third runner-up for P650.

Fel Alagas snatched fifth place to get P500, ending with 3.5 points and Gerry Dignos was sixth placer.

In Class B, Yenz Ybañez was the champion and won P750 and the runner up was Michael Lim, who won P550. Both were also awarded gold medal.

In Class C, the champion was Dwight Velasco who won P750 and the runner up was Albert Mula with P550.

The event was conducted following a five-rounds Swiss System with active chess 25 format. A total of 18 players competed in the event with NM Macapas as the chief arbiter. - Correspondent Marigold P. Lebumfacil
