Quiñones tops Barrios Cup tennis in Iloilo

Michael Quiñones spoiled the comeback bid of Fitzgerald "Ilak" Tabura to win the men's open title in an all-Cebuano championship match of the General Geary L. Barrios Cup in Iloilo City yesterday.
Quiñones, who won his semifinal match over Iloilo's Dionito Koricol, 6-1, 6-1, defeated Tabura, 6-3, 6-4, to pocket the P18,000 championship purse.
Tabura, who beat another Cebuano Adonis Lominoque in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-1, settled for the runner-up honors and the cash prize of P12,000.
The stint of the Cebu netters was supported by the Greater Cebu Sports Organization Committee, which is preparing them for their stint in the 2007 Arafura Games in Darwin City, Australia.
The next stop for them will be a competition in the municipality of Asturias.
