Two basketball events kick off in Danao City

Two basketball tournaments will take place in Danao City starting today at the Danao City Civic Center.

This afternoon will be the opening of the 2007 Danao City Mayors Basketball tournament featuring a total of 52 teams spread in five different divisions.

On Saturday, it's going to be the Congressman Red Durano Cup that will be taking place at the same venue. The event will be an inter-town basketball event under the fifth congressional district.

The different divisions in the Danao City Mayors caging are the elementary, secondary, collegiate, barangay-Sangguniang Kabataan and seniors.

The elementary and secondary divisions will have nine squads each while the collegiate level will have a total of six teams.

Composing the elementary division are Baliang, Cogon, Hossana Learning Center, Sta. Rosa, Cabungahan, D.T. Durano E.S. and Sabang while the secondary level will have Beatriz D. Durano MNHS, MMFC, Sabang, Sto. Thomas College, University of the Visayas-Danao, Cabungahan, Ramon M. Durano MNHS, Sandayong and Ubaldo Iway NHS.

For the tertiary action, vying for the crown are CSA, DCIT, NCC, CSCST-CIT, MMFC and UV.

The SK level will have the most number of entries with 15 including Cabungahan, Dunggoan, Looc, Poblacion I, Sabang, Taboc, Tuburan, Suba II, Cahumayan, Guinsay, Maslog, Poblacion 2, Taytay and Manlayag.

The barangay-senior division, on the other hand, will have 13. It will have the same teams as the SK class, except for Cogon Cruz and Sandayong Sur and has only one team each for Suba and Poblacion.
