The Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skyblazers dealt the Western Leyte College (WLC) Mustangs their second straight loss in as many games at home, 98-82, in the continuing action of the Visayas Amateur Athletic Association (VAAA) men's basketball competition last Sunday at the Ormoc Superdome.
After SCSIT raced to a sizzling 27-20 start, the WLC Mustang, egged on by the cheers of their hometown supporters, responded with a 28-18 blast in the second quarter to wrest the driver's seat at halftime, 38-35.
However, that proved to be the Mustangs' last gasp of breath as the visiting SCSIT Skyblazers unfurled a game-tearing 30-13 rally in the third period to post a 14-point edge, 65-51, heading into the final stretch.
The boys of coach Jojo Romarate did not relinquish their lead and went on to finish off the WLC Mustangs by keeping their composure until the closing seconds of the match.
