The Cebu Sports Media Association (CSMA) in partnership with the United Architects of the
Philippines (UAP) Lapu-Lapu City Chapter will be staging the DURABEND Christmas Cup badminton tournament on the eve of the highly-anticipated 12th ASEAN Summit.
Sponsored by DURABEND "the extra-ordinary board", the one-day contest is slated from 9am to 12nn on December 9 at the Racquet Zone of Montebello Villa Hotel in Brgy. Apas, this city.
This was announced by UAP Lapu-Lapu City Chapter officials Lawrence Young and Allan Choachuy in a luncheon meeting with CSMA founding members Jun Migallen and Manny Villaruel yesterday at the Grand Convention Center of Cebu.
"Although this is just a fun game, I believe the level of competition would be high because badminton is a fast growing sport here. Hopefully, we will make this a monthly event," said Choachuy.
During the competition, the UAP Lapu-Lapu Chapter players and their friends will strut their wares against the pioneering members of CSMA.
Choachuy will team up with Alan Murillo, while Young will play alongside Jason Ng. The tandem of Christopher Dy and Wilson Huang completes the lineup of UAP Lapu-Lapu Chapter.
Aside from Migallen and Villaruel, those who will play under the banner of CSMA are Nimrod NL Quiñones, Rick Gabuya, Ronald Natulla, Calvin Cordova, Brian Ochoa, Lito Tecson,Erwin Lirazan, Allan Defensor, Ruel Rosillo and Jaime Frias.
The pairing of CSMA members will be determined by the drawing of lots, which coincide with the team's practice this Monday evening at the Cebu City Sports Center.
This is the second tournament organized by CSMA through the support of UAP Lapu-Lapu Chapter.
The first was held in conjunction with the 2nd Architect's Badminton Cup two months ago.
The duo of Rick Gabuya and Erwin Lirazan bested the tandem of Ronald Natulla and Lito Tecson to win the championship in the media category.
