Veteran mountainbiker Niño Surban recovered on time to rule the Mayor's Cup Mountainbike Challenge in Carcar the other day.
Surban went off to an early start, leaving the pack behind hoping to finish the 37-kilometer race course in record-time but he went astray.
But good thing, he was able to find the way back and hurdled the opposition at a downhill portion for the victory.
Surban of Team Quicklflight clocked one hour and four minutes.
Randy "Negro" Carbonera settled second while Albert Basirgo was third.
Joseph Diez ruled the combined junior-senior class against Eusebio Ravanes while Antonio Nebria came out third.
Surban was supposed to join the Presidential Mountainbike Ride in Malaysia but had to back out of race after his suppose companion RP teammate Eusebio Quiñones backed out following an accident.
Surban's benefactor, Danao City councilor Oscar "Boying" Rodriguez, Jr., said he will look for another international race for Surban, but most likely its going to be next year already as he will be very busy with the upcoming Asian Games being a designated coach in RP triathlon.
