November 18, 2006 | 12:00am
UNIT XII, represented by PAREF-Springdale, split its assignment yesterday in football even as the 16th Cebu City Olympics opens today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Springdale's secondary bets banged in five goals against one of the Unit-IV-University of San Jose-Recoletos to win the match.
On the other hand, Unit XIV powered by the Abellana National School blanked University of San Carlos-North Campus, who is representing Unit VIII, 7-0.
In the elementary level, Springdale was not as lucky after bowing down to Unit XI-City Central, 1-2.
Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, who is representing Unit-VI, shared the top seat with Unit-XI after taking away a 6-1 win against Bright Academy of Unit VIII.
The event will follow a double elimination round format in which a team which loses twice will be booted out of the contest while the team without a loss gets the twice-to-beat advantage.
The competition officially opens this morning with Mayor Tomas Osmeña, expected to attend the opening ceremonies along with vice-mayor Michael Rama and councilor Jocelyn Pesquerra, among other local government officials.
Games proper follow right away in the basic level while majority of the tertiary division meet will take place next weekend. - Caecent O. No-ot and Marigold Lebumfacil
