After sometime of inactivity, some new Cebuano fencing enthusiasts from the Cebu for International Education (CIE) made their presence felt in the recently-concluded Philippine Amateur Fencing Association (PAFA) Novice Fencing Tournament at the PhilSports Fencing Hall in Pasig.
The CIE fencers, coached by Angelo Angel and Simon John Carey, made their presence felt after hauling a gold and three bronze medals, not counting three top 10 placing.
Javier Alejandro Jalandoni led the CIE cast after winning the gold in the boys division.
Two other boys division bets namely Christopher Francis Graham and Mickel Angelo Martinez had a bronze each.
Juan Bernardo Lava missed to go home with a medal, but still left happy after landing fourth.
In the girls division, Marie Gloria Tan grabbed a bronze medal.
Her teammates, Leanza Dominique Teves and Rizza Carmina Cabrera ended sixth and seventh, respectively.
"The trip was a great experience. It was good that we went outside of Cebu because it exposed us to more fencing players and it showed us how we would rank against other novices. It was tiring but the tournament was a lot of fun," says Christopher Francis Graham in behalf of the entire CIE squad. - Caecent O. No-ot
