Lapu-Lapu survives Consolacion in GUV Cup

Cluster VI defending champion Lapu-Lapu had to pass by the proverbial eye of the needle before logging a victory over Consolacion in Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women held at the Consolacion Sports Complex.

Lapu-Lapu nipped Consolacion, 25-20, in the opening set but Consolacion came back with a vengeance in the second set, taking it via nerve-wracking 27-25 scoring.

The third set saw the two raging teams fighting like cat and mouse but Lapu-Lapu prevailed, 25-23.

Last year's MVP Jusabelle Brillo stood out in the court and contributed a lot to Lapu-Lapu's victory while Arly Maloloy-on, on the other hand, led Consolacion.

Before the bitter defeat, Consolacion was able to subdue Cordova with an easy, 25-14, 25-11 win.

Mandaue, on the other hand, logged two victories yesterday, over Liloan, 25-9, 25-20 and Consolacion, 25-17, 25-14.

Yesterday was not a lucky day for Cordova because after bowing to Consolacion, they were also stopped by Liloan, 25-14, 25-15.

The matches yesterday ended with Lapu-Lapu winning over Liloan, 25-21, 26-24.

The games will resume today at Consolacion Sports Complex with Mandaue going up against Cordova in the opening game at 8:30 followed by Consolacion over Liloan and the last game will be Cordova versus Lapu-Lapu. - Correspondent Marigold P. Lebumfacil
