Region 7 wins 37 golds in Special Olympic Games

It's mission accomplished for Central Visayas as it carted away 37 gold, 29 silver and 18 bronze medals to close its campaign in the 11th National Special Olympic Games in Marikina City.

After taking away seven gold medals in swimming, the track and field bets of Central Visayas took the charge with an output 31 gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

The 31 gold medals came from different age-groups and sub-classes of the 15 to 21 years-old bracket up down to the 30-above class.

The boys 12-21 team in 4x100m relay and their 16-21 team in the 4x 00m squad reigned supreme in their action as their female counterpart got a gold in the 4x400m (12-15) and silver in the 16-21.

In the individual events, Julius Cañete prevented a gold medal shutout in the 100m event for boys 15-21 as teammate Melchor Cadabos and Alexander Bacus claimed the silver and bronze, respectively.

Under the 16-21 class' 100m event, Central Visayas got five golds through the efforts of John Apayorking, Jackie John Diyal, Henry Sumalinog and Wilfredo Campus.

The 30-above bracket for girls also saw Mizzel Dawa, Maria Cristina Monteclaro, Nini Santillan, Geraldine Capuyan and Jasmine Ngo winning gold medals.

In the 400m, the boys 16-21 bracket saw the team with three golds through Jesus Pacaldo, Joel Ramacho and Wilfredo Tampus as the distaff side had Aurora Modiquillo with a gold.

In the 200m event, Joel Ramacho outsmarted his twin Roel for the gold again as Pacaldo collected another gold in his class along with Judel Teves and a gold each from Ira Luarez and Sheryn Tan in the girls side.

In the 800m run, CV made a sweep with Jesus Pacaldo taking the gold, Wilfredo Tampus with the silver and Castor Bolanday with the bronze.

In the running long jump, Liezel Cocola and Marie Bon Nuñez finished first and second in the 12-15 class as Nini Santillan ruled the girls 16-21 while Marjun Dimpas, Marlon Leyson and Alexander Bacus claimed a gold each in the boys side.

The Central Visayas bets also bad a 1-2-3 finish in the shotput event for the 30-above class through Gilbert Barillano, Melchor Cadavos and Rufino Santos while taking a 1-2 placing for Marlon Leyson and Roel Ramacho in the 16-21 bracker.

Mitchel Dawa and Maria Cristina Montecalvo and Geraldine Capuyan ruled the shot put for girls 22-29 class.

Other silver and bronze medal winners were Rufino Santos, Ryan Alsol, Gilbert Barillano, Jason Villavicencio, Allyza Goyoc, Candice Sabang, Anthony Sayas, Maryjane Cagang and Cristina delos Reyes.
