Alta Vista wins Jungolf crown

Alta Vista Golf and Country Club bagged the overall title in the Alta Vista Junior Golf Challenge, which closed yesterday after two exciting days of competition at the club's course in Pardo, this city.
The hosts beat six other clubs for the crown as its team one scored a total of 291 points. The team was composed of Edsel Tan, Irina Gabasa, Gio Gandiongco, and Francis Jereza.
Second place went to team 1 of Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club with 280 points. The team members were Jae Yang, Alonzo Reyes, Chepe Dulay, and Juan Carlos Torres.
Third place in the team event went to team 2 of Del Monte Golf Club of Bukidnon with 258 points courtesy of Art Arbole, Marian Woo, Leonard Lofranco, and Ramram Roque.
Jae Yang of NOGCC pulled the rug from under Alta Vista's Edsel Tan to take the title for class A with a two-day total of 107 points on rounds of 53 and 54.
Tan settled for the 1st runner-up honors with a total of 106 (55-51) while third place went top Del Monte's Adrian Woo with 92 (47-45).
The class B plum went hands down to Chepe Dulay of NOGCC with 100 (54-46) followed by Big Jan Ybañez of Cebu Country Club with 90 (46-44) and Franz Olea also of CCC with 78 (38-40).
Mactan's VJ Vasandani topped class C with 96 points (46-50) followed by Lee Gyeong Jun of AVGCC with 93 (46-47) and Gio Gandiongco of AVGCC with 93 (44-49).
Del Monte's Ramram Roque ruled class D with 80 points (40-40) followed by Martin Manghrablian of Apo Golf in Davao with 71 (36-35) and Rafa Merchadesch of Negros with 68 (28-40).
Shailesh Vasandani of Mactan topped class E with 47 points (24-23) while Carl Chabon of Camp Evangelista of Cagayan de Oro City was second with 32 (13-19) and at third was Jason Villarosa of NOGCC also with 32 (13-19).
The tournament used the Molave Points System.
In the special division, which is known as mid-amateur in other countries, Bayani Garcia of CCC emerged victorious with a total of 94 (46-48) followed by brothers Marvin and Marco Mendoza of AVGCC with 75 and 59 respectively.
Hannah Wong of CCC topped class A with a total of 71 points on rounds of 37 and 34.
The class B plum went to AVGCC's Irina Gabasa with 92 points (46-46) followed by Stephanie Olea of CCC with 82 (40-42) and Kristine Leonen of Del Monte with 77 (38-39).
The class C champion was Juilly Vasandani of Mactan with 76 points (36-40) followed by Emmylou Tan of AVGCC with 42 (22-20).
Kim Min Ji led an AVGCC sweep in class D with 76 points (35-41). Second place went to Sunny Chung with 70 (40-30) and third was Yang Ha Ryung with 67 (32-35).
Rainstar Roque of Del Monte ruled class E with 47 (21-26) edging teammate Pamela Mariano also with 47 (23-24) while third place went to Joan Hortillano of Mactan with 35 (21-14).
Ramon Sebastian, club treasurer and director of AVGCC told The FREEMAN yesterday that he was very happy with the outcome of the tournament and encouraged the other club members to support similar endeavors.
"It's great to see the future of golf in action and I congratulate the committee for a great job," Sebastian said.
