Cebuano netters grab titles in Cebuana Lhuillier tennis

Three young Cebuanos made a very strong impact at the close of the Cebuana Lhuillier Tennis Championships in Gingoog City yesterday.

Francis Largo claimed two titles while Tuburan Elementary School's Vince Marc Tabotabo had a title and a runner-up trophy. The lesser known Franklin Encarnacion also fished out a runner-up trophy.

Largo dominated the boys' 18 and 16-under division both against Cagayan de Oro's Noelito Pacaña.

In the boys' 16-under, Largo clearly dictated the tempo of the game and ended the final game in two sets, 6-1, 6-3.

Largo and Pacaña met again for the boys' 18-under, but Pacaña didn't last long and retired.

On the other hand, the Vice-governor Greg Sanchez and Tuburan Tennis Club president Jude Laurel-supported Tabotabo reigned supreme in the 10-under class.

Tabotabo came up with a 6-4,6-3 beating against final opponent Spencer Sagrado.

Then in the boys' 12-under, Tabotabo put up a good fight against the much older Rarey Batao of Bukidnon, but missed the title after bowing at 4-6, 3-6.

The third Cebuano entry, Franklin Encarnacion of Dumanjug reached the championship game in the boys'14-under were he ended with a runner-up trophy after a 2-6,2-6 defeat against Juan Paolo Fermin.
