Host Toledo starts strong in Guv Cup

TOLEDO CITY - Host Toledo City dumped Tuburan, 25-6, 25-19, yesterday to lead the winners in the cluster II of the Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup for Women elimination round held at Barba Sports Complex here.
The host team was led by the trio of Sonia Quillobe, Rofel Palao and Juvy Cabañero in the first set. In the second set, Marites Natad joined in the fray to further inflict pain to Tuburan.
In the first match, Balamban tamed Barili, 25-13, 25-17, with the efforts of Alma Romero while Aloguinsan leaned on the duo of Leslie Ann Esconde and Nonelia Cauba as they overpowered Asturias, 25-12, 25-10.
Balamban, winning in the first match in the morning, also won in the first match in the afternoon, trouncing Aloguinsan, 25-20, 25-22.
Barili, on the other hand, after tasting bitter defeat against Balamban in the first match, won over Asturias, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20.
Governor Gwen Garcia was in Toledo City to grace the formal turn-over of the Governor Gwen Garcia Volleyball equipment to Toledo City Mayor Arlene "Dydee" Zambo.
Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup in Cluster III will resume today with Asturias and Tuburan in the opening match at 8:30 followed by Barili-Aloguinsan and Balamban-Toledo match in the morning while in the afternoon, Tuburan will face Barili, Aloguinsan against Toledo followed by Balamban against Tuburan while Asturias and Toledo will be the last match.
