Reverend Fr. Rey Talaugon, parish priest of the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish in Capitol, gave himself a timely birthday present by dominating the executives category of the 2nd Capitol Parish Tennis Cup last Friday at the San Carlos Seminary (SANCASE) tennis courts in Brgy. Mabolo, this city.
Participated in by some of Cebu's former top racquet-wielders and current crop of tennis stars, the one-day netfest was held in celebration of Fr. Talaugon's 44th birthday.
Fr. Talaugon teamed up with Larry Antigua to defeat the tandem of Bobby Soquiño and Noel Antigua in the final to claim the executives crown.
Janji Soquiño and Monmon Muñoz, on the other hand, outpointed Oswaldo Dumoran, Jr. and Arlou Soquiño, 8-6, to grab the championship in the men's open doubles.
In the training pool category, Team A lorded it over Team B.
Team A is composed of Bernardine "Niño" Siso, Sally Mae Siso, Lovelie Soquiño, Cheska Tabotabo, Cheska Talaugon, Niño Baylosis, Kristel Mae Buenacosa, Erik Pepito, and Juniel Espinosa.
Team B is manned by Robby Soquiño, Cyril Camporedondo, Sallydine Siso, Jess Anthony Espinosa, Hanna Espinosa, Michael Aguilar, Nikke Do, John Go, and Macoy Seriño, Jr.
Fr. Talaugon was on hand to award the medals and cash prizes to the winners during the simple but lively and colorful awarding rites at the Capitol Parish convent.
Fr. Talaugon, an advocate of grassroots sports development in tennis in his own little way, also handed out racquets and tennis shoes to poor but deserving players.
