After all the trying, Mary Rose Arman is bridesmaid no more after winning her first crown in a 10-kilometer run, even as Bohol's Joseph Penales bagged his first title in a Cebu race this year in yesterday's 3rd World Heart Day Run at Cebu Business Park.
Penales breasted the tape first in 35 minutes and 6.38 seconds. He was followed by Adonis Singson with a 35:25.10 clocking, while Riez Enriquez came in third at 35:39.27.
Mendel Lopez could only go as far as fourth place with 35:51.97, while Rolan Montebon finished fifth.
The sixth to 10th placers in the men's open were Gilbert Luterte (36:19.65), Miljun Luterte(37:12.85), Joel Delposo( 37:44.37), Florante Ordeniza (39:55.53) and Edwin Caingcoy(43:01.50).
Arman, on the other hand, preyed on the absence of the top female runners to claim the women's tiara in the event organized by the Philippine Heart Association-Cebu and the Cebu Executive Runner's Club.
Arman posted a time of 43:50.10 to edge out closest pursuer Joeyry Ann Lee, who timed in 44:15.25.
Madelyn Carter landed at third at 48:06.10 clockings.
Rounding up the top 10 finishers in the women's were Pearl Dyane Beronia(48:44.69), Jennifer Monteno(57:17.17), Juvelyn Nisas(57:20.76), Glady Sumile(1:01:28.10), Marina Lipardo(1:02:04.24), Alma Albano (1:04:02.34) and Emily Estrada (1:05.36.60).
Eye specialist Dr. Yong Larrazabal emerged the fastest among the competing doctors.
Larrazabal posted 55 minutes and four seconds for the top post, beating Glenn Ang with the time of 57.23. Brian Canton wound up third at 58.17.
