Allanic, Fuentes to wage explosive war in Danao boxfest

-
Two of ALA Stable's young prospects are set to wage an explosive war on the ring against separate foes in the chief supporting bouts of this Saturday's "Triple Thriller" boxing show at the newly-renovated and air-conditioned Danao Civic Center in Danao City.

RP No.1 super flyweight contender Robert Allanic and RP ranked No. 4 flyweight Rocky Fuentes are expected to provide the boxing fans with mouth-watering appetizer before they will be served with the main dish featuring WBA Pan-African champion light flyweight champion Bert Batawang against veteran Robert Rubillar.

Allanic will trade mitts with Rolly Mandahinog of Butuan City, while Rocky Fuentes will slug it out with Jerry Manganip.

Sporting a 14-1 win-loss record with 6KOs, Allanic is fresh from a seventh round TKO win over Danilo Peña last July 22 in Tagbilaran City.

A gold medallist in his amateur days, Allanic has only incurred one loss since turning pro in May 2004. Allanic's lone setback was inflicted by Manny Pacquiao-managed boxing talent, Orlan Enriquez.

Since then, Allanic went on a rampage with seven successive wins, including one via stoppage over Saensak Singmanassak of Thailand last April 30.

Fuentes, on the other hand, is now a veteran of 21 fights since turning professional in June 2003 at the age of 17.

Known for his fists of stone, Fuentes' knockout power was put to a test when a fourth round knockout victory against John Eman Juarez on December 27, 2003 turned into a boxing nightmare.

Juarez collapsed after the fight and was rushed to the hospital. He had to undergo surgery to ease swelling of the brain and drain the blood clots. After travailing for a couple of days, Juarez died because of severe head injuries.

Incidentally, the horrific incident happened at the old Danao City gym.

Fighting for the second time at the newly-refurbished gym in Danao, Fuentes hopes that he can come up with an entertaining bout for boxing fans and dispel the remnants of gloom from his previous fight.

Co-sponsored by the city government of Danao under the leadership of Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III, the slambang showdown opens up with four other professional bouts plus exciting amateur fights.
