Former Cebuana swimming sensation Larissa Ang burned the tracks yesterday to lead the Nursing Department to an impressive gold medal sweep in the athletics event of the Velez College Intramural Games 2006 at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Earlier, Quiana Bigornia and Grace Valoria savored easy victories to give the Nursing team its first two gold medals.

Bigornia sprinted her was to a gold in the 50-meter dash. She was trailed by Julia Alba of the CAS/Bio Department, who placed second, and Chyme Piedra of the College of Physical Therapy, the third placer.

Valoria, for her part, ruled the 100m dash with Chutchie Vergara of the College of Physical Therapy placing second and Kristine Manugas of CAS/Bio Department completing the top three.

The dominance of the Nursing Department was wrapped up by a gold medal finish in the 4x50m relay. The silver medal went to the Therapy group and CAS/Bio was third.

But the men's team failed to duplicate the feat of the women's as they placed fourth overall with only a bronze medal.

The championship title in the men's contest was shared by the CAS/Bio Department and the College of Physical Therapy, which both ended with two gold and two silver medals.

Marc Anthony Pugoy, Jr. of the CAS/Bio group took the cudgels for his team as he won two gold medals.

He was followed in the 200m race by Victor Cosi of the Therapy group and the third placer was Justin Bomediano of Nursing while the second placer in the 400m dash was Nico Torion of the Therapy group and Raoul Coguitta of MedTech was third.
