UC leads winners in CESAFI badminton

University of Cebu (UC) bagged the championship title in the boys team event, smashing University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) secondary badminton at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

Jamesbell Rizon of UC won over USJ-R's Paul Palacio in the boys singles fight but USJ-R scored a default in the doubles behind Ian Araneta and Clint Armamento, making standing at 1-all.

It was UC's John Roy Densing who settled the scores after defeating Miguel Espinosa of USJ-R, 15-5 and 15-2.

On the other hand, University of the Visayas girls' doubles, Jewel Amor Collamat and Emelyn Agbay, topped in their category over UC's Jean Lepaopao and Marigold Sweet Duan while USJ-R got the third slot.

In the collegiate division, UC's girl's team is on the lead in the elimination in both the singles and doubles events.

UC's Irish Olofernes and Rojane Lizondra's teamed up to beat UV's Pamela Villarama and Valen Liloan, 10-15, 15-11 and 15-10.

The same results were made in the girls singles category when Yedah Fornoles of UC won over UV's Christine Lim Lim, 11-7 and 11-1.

On the other hand, Erwin Batucan of University of San Carlos lorded it over Cebu Institute of Technology's Charles Pastrana, 15-6, 15-0, in the men's singles match.

But Alvin Seno of UC overpowered Batucan, 15-13, 15-12, in the second match.

Seno also tamed SWU's Christopher Zamora, 15-5 and 15-8.

The UC college boys doubles, made up of Junjun Olofernes and Jed Sumalinog, were also leading in the boys doubles category as they smashed out their two opponents namely UV's Niño Go and Rolando Suico and USC's William Jimenez and Chris Catela. - Marigold P. Lebumfacil
