Shell chess slots complete

The 500 slots for the 14th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships-Cebu leg is already filled up as the event starts on August 19 at SM City-Cebu.
According to the Cebu leg coordinator, Ben Macapaz, the kiddies division will have a total of 256 entries and the juniors division attracted 244.
Some out-of-towners are coming to Cebu to join the action including three pawn-pushers from Zamboanga, two from Escalante City, three from Tagbilaran and eight from West Negros College.
Among the Cebu-based areas, Lapu-Lapu City will be sending 130 entries coming from different schools while Compostela and Sacred Heart School-Jesuit has 60 bets and Abellana National School with 50.
Cash prizes and trophies will be given away to the top five players in each division in all regional legs. They will also be given a chance to represent their area in the Grand Finals scheduled to take place on October 21-22 at SM City North Edsa where big cash prizes await the top players.
Special award will also go to the school with the most number of entries and the youngest player award that will be dubbed the Art Borjal award during the final battle.
