Tipasi All-Star grabs SWFC cage crown

The Tipasi All-Star gunned down CX Plus John Arne Construction, 71-64, to win the championship of the Sunday Wednesday Friends Club (SWFC) basketball tournament last Sunday at the CEC gym.

Playmaker Tata Mansubre made things happen for Tipasi All-Star not only by scoring points, but also by dishing off nifty assists to his tall teammates Ekong Unajan and Glenn Cabiluna, who proved unstoppable for John Arne's big men.

Mansubre, a slippery guard, led Tipasi with 15 points while Unajan and Cabiluna, both playing center-forward positions, chipped in 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

Jimbo Noel topscored for John Arne with 15 points, while former UC forward Joselito Ocampo added 15. Their top gunner Vincent "Inting" Reyes scored 14 points, but he found his range when Tipasi All-Star already controlled the tempo of the game.

Reyes though had his fair share of the limelight as he won the MVP plum.

The victory had Tipasi playing coach Atty. Jun Felicitas taking away the Best Coach title, even as the SWFC headed by its president Engr. Paul Quiñanola handed a plaque of appreciation to John Arne playing coach and SWFC commissioner Dr. Boy Te.

Tipasi All-Star was beefed up by dribbling friar Fr. Aloy Cartagenas, SVD a congregation that run the University of San Carlos.

In the battle for third, the Summit Drinking Water won by forfeiture over Flammazine.
