The Queen City United female booters never allowed Mulbachs to spoil their day as they coasted to a resounding 3-1 victory to retain their title in the 10th Aboitiz-CebuFA Football Cup Women's Open tournament yesterday at San Roque field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
QCU actually needed just a draw with Mulbachs to wrap up the crown, but the defending champions did not flirt with complacency, more so that San Roque edged out its sister-team University of San Carlos, 2-0, in the opening match.
QCU's Marlou Solon broke the ice of the match with just 16 minutes gone by in the first half.
Kathrina Bejec scored another goal at the 77th to give QCU a 2-0 lead, but Riza Demitillo retaliated at the 79th to pull Mulbachs within 1-2.
Cristina Fuentes did not give Mulbachs any chance of staging a comeback as she nailed a goal at the 85th to secure QCU's win.
Aside from keeping their title via a three-game sweep, QCU also earned a chance to represent Cebu anew in the National Women's Championships scheduled to be held next month in Dumaguete City.
