Delada and Janiola headline 'Double Trouble' in Dapitan

-
Cebu-honed punching machine Dexter Delada and Wendel Janiola, both of Rex "Wakee" Salud Stable, take on separate foes in a pair of championship bouts topbilling the "Double Trouble" card on July 25 in Dawo, Dapitan City.

Delada, who hails from Camiguin, tangles with Christopher Saluday of Davao City in a 12-round war for the vacant Philippine lightweight title, while Janiola battles Philip Parcon of the Davao City-based Vic Adriano Stable for the PBF light flyweight crown in a scheduled tenner.

The slambang show is co-presented by Bullet Jalosjos and Rex 'Wakee' Salud Promotions International in partnership with Ma. Consuelo "Cho"Locop of Gloria de Dapitan, Governor Rolando Yebes, Mayor Jun Jalosjos and San Miguel Beer.

Delada, who sports a 14-3 (10KOs) record, hopes to bounce back from his previous loss by second round knockout to Ali Funeka in their WBC International lightweight title match last May 27 at the Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa.

Delada once vied for the RP 135-pound crown, but failed after being stopped by erstwhile title-holder Fernando Montilla in the fourth round on November 5 last year at the San Andres Sports and Civic Center in Manila.

Montilla was stripped of his title by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) for figuring in an unauthorized fight in Thailand.

Saluday, on the other hand, showed he's back in top form after a string of losses as he fought to a draw with ALA Boy Bart Abapo the last time he climbed the ring last April 22 in Quezon City.

In the supporting main event, Janiola seeks of regain lost glamour as he mix it up with Parcon in his first fight of the year.

Janiola, who once held lofty world ratings before plunging down due to inactivity, split his only two matches last year.

Janiola floored Ricky Escaner in the second round in last year's Independence Day boxing at the Lilo-an Sports Complex, but lost to Julius Alcos by unanimous decision over 10 heats in his previous bout on December 28, 2005 at the UM Gym in Tagum City.

Janiola should brace for a big war against Parcon, a former amateur standout who once reigned as the RP minimumweight champion.

Parcon won the RP title by beating Dennis Juntillano by unanimous decision on May 22 last year in Kidapawan City, but was dethroned by Florante Condes via fourth-round knockout seven months later at Sta. Lucia East Mall in Cainta, Rizal.
