Inspired by the lead he got for the Road Cyclist of the Year (RCY) award, Xerox Lauron went on to win the first race for the month of July in the RECYCLE Cycling Series at the Mandaue City reclamation area yesterday.
Lauron of Team Velonauts will again summon his wits today for the second leg to take place at the Top in Busay.
Lauron, who ironically have not won a single leg in the RCM race but leads the RCY with his points collection, won the latest outing after outsprinting Lapu-Lapu-RUT's Haylin Bardaje.
Bardaje was enjoying a comfortable lead but was pulled back by the Velonauts until the 13th lap when he tried to breakaway again.
Richard Patalinhug was third while Orlando Toring was fourth and Ciano Dignos at fifth place.
Lapu-Lapu-RUT, however, had a share of the limelight after leading the team standings with 31 points.
Velonauts was second with 30 points while the Superclimbers, Kalit and Spark Kleen have identical 10 points each.
