Copa de Golf tees off today

The Cebu Country Club will be packed to the brim today as 58 teams have signed to tee off in today's 6th Copa de Golf of Casino Español de Cebu.

This will be a four-man team event with the three best scores to count for the team total. The Modified Stableford Scoring System will be used.

A ceremonial tee off is scheduled this 9 am with Jose 'Cheling' Sala, president of Casino Español de Cebu to hit the ceremonial ball.

The top team at the end of the day will be declared champion while the next four will also receive prizes. The best performer among the members of Casino Español in terms of points made will be named as player of the year, said Edito 'Nonoy' Tirol, the chairman of the tournament.

Co-presentors of the event are Globe Platinum, Rajah Park Hotel, and Thunderbird.

Tirol told The FREEMAN that there will be three holes on each of the four par-3 greens. The hole-in-one prizes are a Kia Piccanto, a Skygo motorcycle, and a 21-inch Philips colored TV.

Major backers of the tournament are Metaphil, Cardoc, Skygo, Cebu Mitsumi, Premiere Wines, Philippine Airlines, Kia Motors Cebu, and Abeseria Restaurant and Deli.

Donors are Philips, Julie's Bakeshop, Grand Majestic, and Promac.

Tirol said that the awards ceremony at the ballroom of Casino Español tonight will open with a 30-minute show featuring Team Cebu City Dancesport in "The Showcase of Champs."

The main entertainment will be by the Bloomfields, a popular retro band in Manila, he added.-NLQ
