"Ground and Pound" martial arts tourney set July 8

A total of 15 "bloody" bouts and two special attraction will be featured in the forthcoming kickboxing and mixed martial arts extravaganza dubbed as "Ground and Pound" on July 8 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The tournament is organized by Yawyan Ardigma Martials Arts Federation Inc. in cooperation with Ultimate Submission Fightings and the Cebu City Sports Commission.

Ekin Caniga of Yawyan Ardigma said the event will feature Vicente "Badong" Valdueza jr. of Yawyan Pasay Team MMA champion against Cebu champion Adamson "The Assassin" Torbiso of the Lapulapu-based Durex Dragon Kickboxing in a five-round kickboxing showdown.

A three-round mixed martial arts tiff, on the other hand, will pit Engie "The Enforcer" Piloto of Yawyan Ardigma Cebu against Pablo "The Predator"Santillan of Durex Dragon.

Another Manila-based kickboxer, James Garcia, will also show his wares against Mercito "Guerrero" Gesto of Mandaue's CMAC Kickboxing Team in a five-round kickboxing duel.

In the open category (mixed martial arts), Cary "The Prince" Ballos of Yawyan Musang Team will battle Jun "The Striker" Fernandez of Western Kickboxing Team.

On the other hand, Johnlevy "Ian" Canigo of Yawyan Ardigma takes on Ronald Alinsug of Angel Technique Club of Mandaue City in an exhibition match under the children's category scheduled for two rounds.

In the distaff side, Novah "Yaai" Devola of Angel Technique Cebu will clash with ALcheine Yosorez of Wushu Sanshou Team of Cagayan de Oro City.
