Sallydine Siso eyes 2 titles in Gullas net

- Rafael S. Alas III -
Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) champion Sallymae Siso will go for two championship titles in the girls division even as top seeds blasted their respective opponents to advance to the boy's quarterfinal rounds of the 11th Gullas Cup Junior Tennis Championships at the Cebu Country Club and Lahug Racquet Club.

Sallymae will be going for the tiaras in the 12 and 14 under divisions after scoring emphatic victories in the semifinal round at the Lahug Racquet Club.

A 6-1, 6-1 semifinal winner over Hannah Espinosa, Sallymae will meet Janice Cañete for the title in the 12 under division.

She defeated her elder sister Sallydine, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, to arrange a titular showdown against Cristel Mae Buenacosa in the 14 under division.

Also eyeing two crowns is Macy Solon of Dumaguete City, who secured a ticket to the finals in the 18-under class, beating Lovely Soquiño, 7-5, 6-2.

She will meet Floreza Alesna of University of San Carlos, who won over Nelly Jane Villarico, 6-0, 6-2.

In the 16-under division, Solon is set to meet Sallydine Siso in the semifinal round while the other final slot will be disputed by Lovely Soquiño against Buenacosa.

Meanwhile, Arafura Games medallist James Carl Cañete and Palarong Pambansa bet Niño Siso and Jacob Lagman are leading the charge in their respective age groups in the boy's action at the Cebu Country Club.

Top seed Cañete advanced to the quarterfinals in the 18-under division with a masterful 6-0, 6-1 demolition of Melchor Miñoza as second seed Julrico Pagsiap did not lift a finger to move on to the next round after scoring a default victory over Jeffrey Umandam.

Siso, the number one seed in the 14-under, was too much for Art Montecalvo, 6-1, 6-0, to clinch a quarterfinal ticket even as JV Canoy stunned second seed Amil Aya-ay, 6-1, 7-5.

Lagman, for his part, blanked Louie Pestaño, 6-0, 6-0, to enter the 12-under quarterfinal round while second seed Carlo Ledesma survived a tough match over Brian Earnest Manggapi, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.

The 16-under division saw top seed Raymund Padigos of Manila winning over Danreb Peteros, 6-0, 6-1 as Larry Antigua breezed past Lloyd Cañete, 6-3, 6-3.
