Danao hosts NAGT, Summer Sports Classic

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -
The second leg of the National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) Series and the Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III Summer Sports Classic blasts off today in modest rites in Danao City.

The NAGT, one of the flagship projects of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), which is already in its second leg is an Olympic distance event covering 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run.

The NAGT already saw the potentials of the Cebuano bets dominating the previous editions. Among them are Abet Biagan and Amale Mendezona-Jopson who dominated the series in 2001, Eldy Banluta and Mylene Jarina in 2003 and Gerrie Calinawan last year.

Action today will be divided in different age-groups and the relays.

The NAGT is sponsored by SPEEDO, Danao City Government, Reliv Philippines, Danao Telecom, David's Salon, the Philippine Sports Commission, Nestle PowerBar, MetroAlliance, Asian Centre For Insulation Philippines, Inc., and the municipalities of Carmen and Catmon.

Aside from the triathlon competition, a number of up and coming student athletes will be vying for the top plum in the cycling, swimming and running, which will highlight the Summer Sports Classic.

The cycling competition will be featuring road race for the racer, mountainbike and wheelchair.

The racers will be divided into four classes namely open, B, C and golden boys while the mountainbikers will have the A and B.

The swimming and running event, on the other hand, will be divided in three divisions- the open, elementary and high school.
