Cebuano shuttlecock artists Ian Melendez and Spyro Mejares extended their dominance in Mindanao to win the championship title in the First Iligan City Open at the Synergy Metro Sports badminton court in Iligan City.
The tandem of Melendez and Mejares, the champion in the 2006 National Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) meet in Dagupan City, silenced Mindanao bets Julius Magallanes and Virgilio Natan in the finals.
Melendez and Mejares pocketed P6,000 for their effort plus medals.
The tandem from University of San Jose-Recoletos are preparing for the JVC Regional Circuit here in Cebu this summer.
"If we win this tournament (JVC) we will be sent to the National Open just like last year," Melendez said.
