January 28, 2006 | 12:00am
After a long hiatus, the Cebu Archery Club is back to business as it targets to stir up anew the interest of the public to the sport.
A start of the initiative will be the two-day archery clinic starting today, which is organized by the Cebu Archery Club along with Sandtrap and Cebu Learning Center Archery Team.
The two-day clinic starts today with the showing of an instructional video about the sport after which will follow the basics of archery shooting.
Actual archery shooting will come in the afternoon and Sunday.
Activities on Sunday will also include archery technical aspects like bow tuning, string and arrow making, repairs and maintenance.
The clinic, to be led by Clint Sayo, is open to kids ages 8 years old and above and the adults.
A minimal fee of P100 is pegged for the kids and P250 for the teenagers and adults. The fee already includes the use of equipment for those who do not have one.
Those who can't make it today will be given a special session tomorrow.
For reservations, text 09189339567.
Gordon Joseph, a parent whose kids are into archery hopes that the sport will be a hit to the Cebuanos this time.
Joseph recalls that the last activity the Cebu Archery Club had was in 2004.
Lack of support caused the sport to lag in terms of development as it is only played during the Cebu City Olympics and the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) meets.
Several Cebuanos have showed potentials in archery and have even won medals in the Palarong Pambansa.
However, their skills have not been developed further due to lack of competition and support here.
