Class '94 posts second straight overtime victory

Dendramil Merchandizing '94 weathered a huge third quarter collapse to turn back Cokaliong Shipping Lines '98 in overtime, 75-70, in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 8th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Sunday at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.

Earlier, Eco-Tech Appliance Circle '84/87 also went through some scary moments before repulsing Villa Shipping '70s, 74-69, and avoid what could have been an embarrassing defeat.

Peppery guard Anwar Satina poured in 10 of his season-high 27 points in the extra five-minute period, while top center Wellington Yu unloaded 23 markers as Class '94 surged to the top of the leaderboard with a clean 2-0 slate.

Class '94 led by two at halftime, 35-33, but Robinson Yap presided over a blistering 18-8 run in the third canto to push Class '98 ahead by eight entering the final canto, 61-53.

A see-saw battle ensued with Class '94 restoring a two-point lead, 61-59, in the closing second of the regulation period. However, Yap sank his charities in the return play to forge a 61-all deadlock, thus, sending the game into overtime.

In the extension, Satina wrecked havoc to bail Class'94 out of danger.

Yap finished with 17 points for Class '98 as he became the 23rd player to join the league's 1,000-point club.

Erick Andrew So added 16 points, while Paul Timothy So and Jed Lawrence Co combined for 23 points, but their efforts proved futile as Class '98 absorbed its first defeat in two starts.

In the other game, Class '84/87 feasted on the fouling out of Class '70s's main man Danny Calagos with still seven minutes left in the game to chalk up its first win of the season.

Class '84/87 led only by three at the end of the third quarter, 47-42, but capitalized on the absence of Calagos to protect its very slim lead until the final buzzer.

Henrich Chua topped Class '84/87 with 23 points, while Sammy Sia added 18 markers and George Artus 12.

Nelson Uy posted 16 points, Antonio Ong 15, and Calagos chipped in 13 markers as Class '70s suffered its second straight loss in as many games.
