Layoso rules masters event in Sinulog keg

- Sona Mae V. Povadora -
After topping the doubles event with partner Sammy Say Sy, Manila's Benshir Layoso struck his dominance anew as he overwhelmed local bets to clinch the premiere masters event title in the 7th Metro Gaisano-SMC Sinulog Bowling Open last Sunday at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Banilad.

Layoso of Manila Tenpin Bowling Association tallied a total of 1,709 pinfalls after an eight-game series to claim the crown. He went home P15,000 richer.

Former RP mainstay and Prima Pasta Team II Bonnie Solis, who won the first championship in the masters event way back in 1991, was just eight pins behind Layoso to pocket the P10,000 second prize.

Defending champion Junjun Gothong of Prima Pasta Team VI knocked down 1,679 pinfalls to clinch the third place honors, Vener Reasonda of MTBA-Henrich finished fourth with 1,675 pinfalls, while Earl Uy of CIFYA/ Prima finished fourth.

Top ten players who received P1,000 each were Jomar Jumapao (1,669), Ernest Tan of Phone & Gadgets (1,650), Clarence Tiu of Prima Pasta VI (1,633), Clifford Tan of Albert Surplus (1,630), Jake Yap of Prima Pasta VII (1,628), William Lao of Phone & Gadgets (1,617), Johnny Dai of Phone & Gadgets (1,609), Adolfo Celi of Pacific Barato Ladies (1,606), Kiddo Veloso of Prima Pasta VII (1,599) and Art Areias of General Feeds (1,596).
