CebuSEAG batters want recognition

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -
Cebuano national members in softball and baseball are hoping they will also be recognized and given incentives by Cebu Provincial and City governments after garnering gold medals in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games.

Multi-titled coach Marino "Nene" Tancinco already sent to the Cebu City Government a list of names of the Cebuano batters, who are members of the RP Team, which grabbed gold medals during the SEA Games.

However, Tancinco doubts whether the Cebuano batters will be able to get incentives here looking at the squabbles at the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC).

But the Cebuano RP members remained hopeful that they will also be recognized.

The Cebuanos in the RP men's softball team are Darius and Manuel Bacarisas, Jasper Cabrera and alternate Ben Maravilles.

Gregorio "Ely" dela Cerna and Isaac "Sacky" Bacarisas are under the coaching staff.

There's also one Cebuano in the baseball team in Ruel Emphasis.

Aside from them, two other players who are not born in Cebu, but were groomed as top-caliber athletes here namely Roger Roxas and Florante Acuña.

It was a come-from-behind victory for the RP squad in its final showdown with the defending champion Indonesia, which they defeated, 3-2.

Thanks to the heroics of Darius Bacarisas, who scored a homerun that paved the way to the golden finish.

All of the Cebuano RP squad members are product of Southwestern University under Nene Tancinco.

"Yes, all of them were under me before and that makes me feel so proud. It's like I'm also part of their victory. I just hope they also get the recognition that is due to them," Tancinco said.
