Gorres, Amonsot set for Las Vegas fights

In a showdown that will surely add fuel to the already scathing Filipino-Mexican rivarly, Guilty Promotions has initially tabbed two Mexican fighters as probable opponents for ALA Boxing Club standouts Z "The Dream" Gorres and Czar Amonsot in their February 3 ring date in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Boxing patron Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer, the manager of Gorres and Amonsot, relayed to The Freeman via e-mail that Gorres is pitted with World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin bantamweight champion Samuel Lopez, while Amonsot takes on junior lightweight prospect Arturo Quintero.

"Negotiations are now being made depending on the availability and willingness of the opponents for Gorres and Amonsot," said in Aldeguer, who is currently in the United States.

Lopez, who sports a 17-3 win-loss record with 6KOs, seized the vacant WBA regional belt by beating Leopoldo Gonzalez via 11th round TKO last May 13 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old Lopez, who is also the reigning California 118-pound titlist, won by majority decision over Heriberto Ruiz in his previous bout last September 23.

Ranged against the WBO ranked No.4, IBF No. 9, and WBA No.15 118-pounder Gorres, basically it will be a battle of youth against experience.

Gorres, Lopez's eight years junior, sports a 21-1-1 win-loss-draw slate spiked with 12KOs. He scored a dominating fourth round knockout of Thai Wisanu Pornobnum in their OPBF super flyweight qualifying bout last October 29 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

This will be the second time Gorres will show his stuff in the US. In his US debut, the Mandaue City fighter dismantled Fil-Am Glenn Donaire in the opening round in the undercard of the epic Pacquiao-Morales bout last March 19 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

Amonsot, on the other hand, will make his maiden ring apperance on the US soil against Quintero, who carries a 14-3 win-loss ledger with nine victories by knockout.

The Tagbilaran City-native Amonsot, who holds a 13-1-1 win-loss-draw slate with 10KOs, ended his year with a bang by dethroning Indonesian Victor Mausol via KO in round 8 to emerge as the new WBO Asia-Pacific super featherweight title-holder last November 19 at his hometown.
