Phoon wins AVGCC Christmas Fun Golf

Cebu-based Singaporean Geoff Phoon bagged the overall title in last weekend's Alta Vista Golf and Country Club Christmas Fun Golf Classic.
Phoon of Keppel Shipyard scored net 61 strokes off a gross 76 to win the premiere crown in the tournament. He however had to go through the countback against banker Lesmes Garate, a lefty, who also finished with the same net score.
Phoon won the title by virtue of a better final nine holes, 38 against the 41 of Garate, who settled for the class B title.
The class A crown went to Felix Villanueva, who also prevailed via the countback against Koichi Horii. Both players finished with net scores of 62 strokes. Horii had a gross 68 while Villanueva had a gross 73. Villanueva however had the lower net score on the last nine holes to win the title.
Second runner-up for class A was Vicente 'Inting' Go, a director of the club, with a net score of 63 after edging Edward Chu in the countback.
Garate of Equitable PCI Bank, who had a solid two-over-par 37 on the front nine found himself staring at a string of four bogeys on the back nine before recovering his composure to take the class B title.
Runner-up honors for class B went to Eddie Manzano, who shot a net score of 62 off a gross 81 strokes. Second runner-up was Peter Po with a net 63.
Georgie Go pulled past Antonio Ebol in the countback to claim the class C title with his net score of 65 strokes. The two players finished with the same net score, but Go, who plays with a handicap of 26, had a better score on the back nine.
Ebol settled for the first runner-up trophy, while second runner-up was Robert Tiu with a net score of 66 strokes.
David Villono topped the seniors' division with his net score of 61 strokes followed by Octavio Ong at first runner-up with a net 62. In a very tight battle, Rod Señido prevailed over Ben Villamor in the countback to finish as second runner-up with his net score of 63 strokes.
Lulette Cañizares won the title for the ladies division in run away fashion with her net score of 62 strokes. Runner-up honors went to Korean Michelle Lee.
Francis Jereza was declared champion of the dependents' category with his net score of 74 strokes.
The guest division title went to Max Tan of Water Boss, who topped Marisol Pasion of Casino Filipino-Mactan in the countback. Tan and Pasion finished with identical net scores of 68 strokes. Second runner-up for the category was Collin Go with a net score of 69 strokes.
