Purcia edges MJDL in Customs caging

- Sona Mae V. Povadora -
Purcia Forwarders scored a come-from-behind win over MJDL Brokerage, 81-70, while District Collectors clobbered Rady Abarintos-led Assessment, 62-46, in the 10th Customs Employees and Brokers Union basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.

Purcia Forwarders was trailing until the third period, 34-45, behind the assault of Jaymar Elloren, Taks Moral and Elran Gelbolingo.

But a booming triple by Joseph Jayme at the start of the final quarter kicked off the run of Purcia as they eventually took the lead.

However, it was Bert Purcia's 10 pivotal points coming from the shaded area in the winding minutes that bailed Purcia out of danger to nail its first win.

Randy Francia top scored with game-high 22 points while Gary Cortez and Joseph Jayme posted 17 and 15 points, respectively, for Purcia in the 35-above division.

On the other hand, Dondon Llenos and Arthur Santillan provided District Collector with 22 markers as Elmer Bailio, who sparked a fourth quarter run with three successive triples, failed to save Assessment.

In the other game, Dione "Big Boy" Edera led-CIIS nosed out MJDL, 65-58.
