Unity Cup cluster V finals on today

Cluster V contenders Catmon and Sogod team paced group A with two victories each to jumpstart its respective bid, while teams in group B still fought closely in the simultaneous matches in the 1st Governor Garcia Volleyball Unity Cup yesterday in Carmen and Camotes Island.

In the opener, Catmon hacked out an easy 25-15, 25-12 score over host team Carmen, however, Catmon got a strong resistance before trouncing Danao, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22.

Sogod, on the other hand, scored a 25-19, 25-19, over Danao.

However, it was not always a smooth ride for Sogod as they had to battle a first set deficit, 17-25, before taking the next sets, 25-7, 25-14.

In Camotes Island, Tudela encountered a tough team from Poro en route to dispatching the latter 25-21, 19-25, 25-16 in its opening game.

San Francisco bumped off Pilar, 25-20, 25-19, but the latter bounced back and vented its ire on Tudela to nail its second victory, 25-23, 26-24.

The champion team in group A will battle the champion in group B in Camotes, Island when the action continues today.
