The three Cebuano weightlifters who represented the country in the recently-concluded Asian Men and Women's Weightlifting Championships in Dubai failed to win medals, but were able to establish Philippine records.
The three RP bets, Emily Rosas, Evan Gicain and Renante Briones showed progress after their training in China as seen in their performances in Dubai.
Rosas, who competed in the 48 kgs. class, set an RP record in the clean and jerk after lifting 90 kilograms, erasing her own mark she during the National 5-in-1 Weightlifting Championships five months ago here in Cebu.
University of Cebu's Rosas also equalled her RP total of 160 kgs. after posting 70 kgs. in the snatch, 2.5 kgs. short of her RP record. What Rosas failed to achieve in Dubai Gicain did it by improving her own RP snatch record under the 75 kgs.class, from 77.5 to 80 kgs.
Gicain, however, fell short in the clean and jerk, posting only 95 kgs., far from her 102 kgs. record. Briones, on the other hand, was able to establish RP record in the 105 kgs. class, from 132.5 to 135 kilograms and an RP total of 310 kgs.
