PPSA Hoopfest: Bonje powers Cebu past Jonfer

Alvin Bonje completed a three-point play in the final seven seconds of the contest to pole-vault Cebu past Jonfer Enterprises, 75-73, in the 40-above division, while Colonnade Supermarket smothered the undermanned Fravu, 88-64, in the Punta Princesa Sports Association (PPSA) basketball tournament at the Vicente Sotto Memorial gym.
Cebu controlled the tempo in the first three periods, posting a 62-50 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Jonfer tasted its first lead, 73-72, on a basketball by Arnold Petallar in the last 18 seconds of the game.
In the ensuing play, a steal by Yok Alesna with seven ticks left before the final buzzer triggered a fastbreak layup by Alvin Bonje, who coverted his attempt aside from fishing out a foul. Bonje sank his bonus throw for the final count.
Keming Gutierrez and Alesna scattered 17 points apiece, while Bonje tallied 12 markers as Cebu scored its second win in three starts.
Jonfer, on the other hand, suffered its second loss against one victory.
In the 30-above class, Colonnade's victory placed them behind league front-runner J & B with a clean 6-0 slate.
Rowel Sumalinog and Onnie Co topscored for Colonnade with 17 and 13 points, respectively, while Jun Villar chalked up 20 points in a losing cause.
