UC, SHS-Jesuit eye to pad lead in Milo Olympics

The University of Cebu Webmasters and Sacred Heart School-Jesuit hope to pad their lead in their respective division as the 10th Milo Little Olympics resumes this morning in various venues here in Cebu City.

The Webmasters currently stands with 26 gold, 12 silvers and eight bronzes medals to lead in the secondary division while Sacred Heart School-Jesuit is hanging on tough to keep the driver's seat in the elementary division with 6-4-1.

Today, the Webmasters is expected to pad their lead with the resumption of the athletics competition, which they are clearly dominating.

Also today, the Webmasters bids to collect more gold with the start of another medal-rich taekwondo at Sacred Heart School-Jesuit.

They are also set to get two more gold and silver medals in table tennis with four of its bets advancing to the final round of the singles competition.

Mary Angelie Motel of the Webmasters is eyeing a back-to-back golden finish versus her own sister Mary Grace in the girls singles final battle as Jonathan Jacalan tackles Benedict Gantuangko.

Behind UC in the overall standings is University of the Visayas-Main Campus with 10-13-9, after topping in gymnastics.

University of Southern Philippines-Foundation is at third with 6-7-3.

In the elementary level, Sacred Heart School-Jesuit is up for a hard assignment of keeping the lead today as they are enjoying only a one gold advantage over Sotero B. Cabahug Forum for Literacy, which totes a 4-4-2 haul.

In badminton, UV targets two more gold medals as it booked a final outing in the secondary doubles competition against USJ-R and University of Cebu.

San Isidro Parish School, whom the UV girls team defeated last week settled for third along with Pit-os after being dumped by USJ-R.

In the boys side, Abellana National School and USJ-R ended with a bronze each after bowing to UC and UV, respectively.

In the elementary level, Bacayan Elementary School meets Banilad in the championship round of the girls doubles as Springdale tackles Bethany in the boys side.

CIC, SHS-J, Talamban and Mambaling Elementary School had a bronze each after losing in the semi-final round.

Aside from badminton, Paref-Springdale also looks good in elementary football and is just a step away from taking a back-to-back title after blanking BRIGHT Academy, 6-0.

Springdale meets the equally-talented Don Bosco Technology Center in the championships after the latter silenced City Central School, 6-0.

In the secondary level, it will be ANS versus Springdale and DBTC against SHS-J in the semi-final round.

UV also hopes to improve its standings with four of its bets entering the final round in lawn tennis at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

James Karl Cañete continued to sizzle and grabbed a final slot after leaving Naga's Kennex Abadia in the semifinal match, 8-5.

Teammate Francis Largo duplicated Cañete's winning mark, 8-5, over Jade Labaya to take an all-UV cast in the boys' singles finals.

In the distaff side, it's going to be UC's Lovelie Soquino opposite Macey Solon of Dumaguete.

In the doubles competition, UV's Larry Antigua and Ryan Repunte defeated the bets from University of San Carlos, 8-3, to meet University of San Jose-Recoletos bet April Joy Ledesma and Ryan Repunte for the gold.

UV's Tanya Jakosalem and Julie Ann Jopia managed to push their luck further and meet the tandem of USC-BED-South's Kristel Mae Buenacosa and Sally Dine Siso.

In chess, USC-North and USJ-R lead the cast in the secondary level after posting 13 points each after the fourth round.
