Ramirez leaves Warriors

-
Former PBA player Jesus "Jay " Ramirez left for Germany yesterday afternoon and relegated his duties as coach of the University of San Carlos Warriors to Mike Reyes.

"This is a very hard decision, especially that the CESAFI is still going on. But, maayo na kaayo nga naka upat ko kada-ug karon and kabaw ko nga maayo ra ang mga bata with coach Mike," Ramirez said.

Reyes is the brother of the well-known coach Chot Reyes and Iligan's head tactician in the NBC Billy Reyes. He had been Ramirez' assistant coach since last year and is the overall basketball coordinator for USC.

Ramirez, younger brother of PSC chairman William "Butch" Ramirez, said if he finds better opportunities in Germany, with the help of his brother-in-law who is residing there, he might get his whole family and migrate there.

"I have to explore what's on the other side. I just hope that as I leave, my wards will remember what I have taught them, and continue to keep up the good work," Ramirez said.

Nino Ramirez, one of the key players of USC and son of Jay Ramirez is left behind.

Ramirez said, Fr. Vicente Uy, USC's athletic director, wanted him to leave only after the games are over, but he said, he has to leave now before his visa expires.

"Gipugngan lagi unta ko ni Fr. Vic, pero, lisod na kaayo. Gipapangita kog laing coach, pero, si coach Mike na ang akong gi-recommend para dili maglisud ang mga bata ug adjust," Ramirez said.

Ramirez had been a varsity of the University of the Visayas. He also was part of the RP Youth and Shell in the PBA. He also was with the coaching staff of the Cebu Gems in the now-defunct MBA and coach of Jazz Cola in the CBF. - Caecent O. No-ot
