Carcar sweeps elims in inter-town tilt

Carcar once again banked on the hot scoring hands of Tejay "Amay" Napolitano to mangle Samboan, 95-79, to complete a 4-0 elimination round sweep in Group B in the 2nd Mayor's Cup Inter-town basketball tournament in Dumanjug, Cebu.

In Group A match, Argao won by forfeiture over Alcantara.

Thus, Carcar took the No.1 spot going into the crossover semifinals on September 24.

The 6-foot-3 center Napolitano, the first cager to scored a triple-double in the tournament, led Carcar with 24 points, while temmate Richard Lawas finished with 17 points.

Napolitano, who hails from Brgy. Ocaña, Carcar, had 25 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in their victory over Alcoy last August 20.

Despite of the loss, the Samboan dribblers still have a chance to grab the second semfinals berth by virtue of a simple tie either against Barili or Alcoy, which they both defeated.

Marl Almodiel Seneres led Samboan with 21 points, while James Bernie Mascardo finished with 17 points in a losing cause.

This Saturday, San Fernando shoots for a 4-0 sweep in Group A.

The top two teams in each bracket will meet in the crossover semifinals, hence, San Fernando goes up against Samboan and Carcar goes up against Boljo-on.

The winners will then fight for the championship on September 25 in a winner-take-all affair.
