Pencak silat team in Milolympics opening

The Milo Little Olympics organizing committee here is planning to invite the country's Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) flag bearers in the pencak silat event to showcase their skills in the opening ceremonies of the Milo event this Friday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The move to invite the pencak silat team for a demonstration this Friday is geared towards introducing the event to the Cebuano crowd since the SEAG competition for the event will be held here at the Cebu Coliseum.

The first batch of the RP Team to arrive here in Cebu City, the pencak silat team will be holding its daily practice here in the Queen City of the South until the SEA Games later this year.

The demonstration will made after the cheer-dance competition of the Milo Little Olympics.

The cheer-dance competition, on the other hand, will be participated in by 17 schools.

A total of 10 squads were able to beat the deadline for the cheer-dance contest under the secondary division while seven are in the elementary class.

Abellana National School and City Central School hopes to defend their respective title in the cheer-dance contest.

Also, a total of 47 beauties will vie for coveted Miss Milo Little Olympics.

The elementary level has the most number of contestants in the best muse contest with 27 while the rest will be for the secondary level.

Around 6,000 athletes, coaches and officiating officials coming from the different areas in the Visayas are expected to attend the opening ceremonies.

Action proper will begin on Saturday in different venues.

The sporting events featured in the MLO are athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, scrabble, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

Of the 12 sports, only taekwondo will start next weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Jesuit's gymnasium.

Gymnastics and swimming, on the other hand, is scheduled for two days only while the rest will run for four days.

Aside from the overall championship, athletes hope to do well in the developmental event sponsored by Nestle Philippines as they also compete for the Most Outstanding Athlete (MOA) award.

Each MOA awardee will get P5,000 worth of educational scholarship.
