Defending champion Liloanon Sports Organization (LISO) extended its undefeated run to five following a 102-46 massacre of the listless Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association (SHABA) selection in the 2005 Executive's Cup basketball tournament the other day at the City Sports Club of Cebu gym.
In the main game, the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (CECABA) selection rode on the career-high show of Christopher Cokaliong to mangle Guardo-Rama Boys Barkada, 83-71, for their second straight victory after a woeful 0-4 start.
Exemplifying great team effort, six LISO players planted double figures led by Juanillo Soliman with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Philip Oncines cashed in 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds, while Joseph Torlao donated a dozen markers as LISO continued to perch comfortably atop the totem pole with a clean 5-0 win-loss slate.
Despite scoring only 10 points, Abner Desiderio deserved a special mention as he also issued six assists, collected seven rebounds and four steals, while Dalmacio Maglasang and Venicio Pepito each posted 10 points for LISO, which never gave the SHABA selection some breathing space after racing off to a hot 22-6 start.
The lead snowballed as the game progressed until it blossomed into a 56-point cakewalk.
Hilton Lim had 13 points as SHABA slipped to its fourth consecutive loss without a win.
Later in the day, Cokaliong showed he too can emulate his big brother Chester's stirring exploits after charting a game-high tying 24 points and 11 rebounds on an 11-of-18 sniping from the field in his finest game in the league so far.
Stephen Tan was similarly awesome in cashing in 24 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, while Edwin Lim added 15 points and a season-high eight assists for the CECABA selection, which kept Guardo-Rama Boys at bay after taking a 24-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Guardo-Rama Boys came closer at halftime, 39-42, but CECABA selection restored a seven-point edge, 62-55, before eventually finishing off their opponents with a 21-16 run in the windup.
CECABA selection now improved its win-loss card to 2-4, while Guardo-Rama Boys, led by Danny Lim with 17 points and five rebounds, absorbed its fourth setback against only one victory.
