The Queen City United (QCU) lady booters are off to a rousing start, hurdling a formidable Ilo-ilo City, 2-1, in the 2005 Philippine Football Federation National Women's Championship yesterday at the Tiongko field in Davao City.
Bannering the Cebu Football Association, QCU which consisted of lade belles from the University of San Carlos broke the ice in the 25th minute as Cristine Bejec banged in one for the lead.
Caoched by Richard Montayre, QCU continued with its rampage in the second half, preventing the equally aggressive Ilonggos to convert a shot.
"We did not give them a chance to control the game, we just kept on pressuring them," said Montayre.
Ivy Bongcasan stretched QCU's lead as she nailed in the second goal at the 60th minute for a 2-0 advantage.
But the Ilonggos put up a final ditch to save them from total humiliation as they got past goalkeeper Iris Meca in the last fifteen minutes of the game, in what could have been an offside call.
"It was also a difficult match. They have a very strong team, but before we step in the field I was telling the ladies not to give them the opportunity to score," added Montayre.
Today, QCU, with 1-0 win-loss card in bracket A, will face off Iligan City in their second assignment in a single round robin match.
"We will try our best to win against Iligan City because they are also a force to reckon with," said Montayre.
