Enduro-Cebu kicks off Sunday

Visiting and local racers will have equal footing when the Cebu Enduro San MigLight Adventure race kick off this weekend here, said racecourse setter Leo Oracion.

"I designed the race course so that the local teams will have limited advantage over the visiting racers, especially in the trail or walk and the bike sections," Oracion said. "The trail and bike sections are marked and I made sure that the participants will not get lost on their way to the next CP (control point)."

Oracion, a veteran adventure racer, already tested the racecourse. However, Oracion will not be around to witness the event because he will be leaving for training Pakistan in preparation for his attempt to conquer Mt. Everest along with other Filipino adventure racers.

The racers, on the other hand, will be provided map of Cebu to guide them on their way back to the city.

"They will have the prerogative to choose the shortest possible way to get to the next CP," Oracion said. "We will make the race briefing early so that racers will have enough time to scout for routes."

Meanwhile, all is set for the Cebu leg with 40 teams coming from all over the country expected to show up and join the battle which will have the elite and novice classes.

Entries in the elite class will be hurdling obstacles situated in different stations for six to eight hours while the novice class will be dealing challenges for three to four hours.



The adventure challenge set in different areas in the Queen City of the South will involve off-road and street mountainbiking, trail running, ascending, Tyrolean traverse and swimming.

There will also be some team challenges at hand for the racers.

The briefing for the said event will take place tomorrow in a still undisclosed venue while the race proper will take place on Saturday.
