Reigning RP light welterweight titlist Bart Abapo of the famed ALA Boxing Stable defeated Korean champion Dong Geun Jang via eighth round technical decision the other night in Ilsan, Kyungkido, Korea.
Boxing patron Antonio "Bidoy" L. Aldeguer relayed to The Freeman via text message that the bout was stopped by the referee in the eighth round after Abapo suffered a nasty cut over his eye inflicted by an accidental head-butt.
The cut was so deep that it rendered the OPBF ranked No.6 super lightweight contender Abapo unfit to go the full 10-round distance.
At the time of the stoppage, the 27-year-old Abapo was leading on all scorecards, thus, the Cebuano and was declared the winner. - EBV
